Degradation of the persistent organic pollutant-lindane in fixed-bed photoreactor packed with immobilized Zinc Oxide and Iron oxide-doped Zinc Oxide photocatalysts

Abstract The potential for the photocatalytic degradation of lindane, used as agricultural insecticide and pharmaceutical product, is investigated. Two types photocatalysts, immobilized on 5 mm sodalime beads are synthesised using an easy economical process: (1) Zinc Oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles (2) Iron oxide-doped (Fe-ZnO). Tests lindane under continuous flow conditions conducted a stainless steel fixed bed photoreactor 6W UV-A lamp operating at 375 nm. sorption onto photocatalysts examined with equilibrium kinetic tests batch mode. experimental datasets fitted 1-dimensional advection-dispersion-sorption-reaction numerical model to estimate parameters controlling rate: apparent capacity catalyst, surface reaction constant. Based estimated parameter values, comparative analysis performance two catalysts done.
